About this event

Join MSU's Department of Anthropology and Middle Eastern Cultures for an Afternoon Anthropology lecture!

When/Where: Jan. 21, 1-2 p.m., Etheredge Hall, Room 224

Speaker: Christopher Lynn, professor of anthropology at the University of Alabama

Presentation: "Inking of Immunity: Inflammatory and Endocrine Responses to Your Bulldog Tattoo"

Description: Over multiple studies in the U.S. and Pacific, Lynn's teams have compared immune and endocrine reactions to receiving tattoos in relation to lifetime tattoo experience. His teams compared intercollegiate athletes as exemplars of fitness to other U.S. undergraduates in terms of tattoos, piercings and tattoo- and piercing-related medical complications. In this talk, Lynn will share findings from these studies and qualitative research conducted via the "Inking of Immunity" podcast.
