Virtual HRSA Grant-Writing Boot Camp

June 1, 2022
12:00 pm to 2:00 pm

About this event

MSU's Starkville and Meridian campuses will provide a virtual U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HRSA) grant-writing boot camp across four Wednesdays in June.

The overall event consists of four two-hour sessions held at noon on June 1, 8, 15 and 22. The goal is to learn the strategies of a good HRSA grant writer so you, in turn, can teach your colleagues once you are successful. While good proposal writing does require proficient writing skills, you will learn the rest of what it takes to be successful in securing HRSA grants. Emphasis is given to doing the extra things that can make the difference between success and failure.

Participants should plan to attend all four sessions as each session will address various aspects of the HRSA proposal submission process.

Topics include:

—Session No. 1: An introduction to HRSA and the funding opportunities available, as well as reading and understanding notice of funding opportunities.

—Session No. 2: Developing sections of the project narrative and project abstract. For this session, faculty review a narrative from a highly scored application.

—Session No. 3: Budgets, attachments and final review.

—Session No. 4: Managing a HRSA award once it has been approved and funded (including required reporting), and a review of what has been learned.

Presenters include: Cindy Selleck, University of Alabama-Birmingham School of Nursing professor emerita, and Stephanie Hyche, MSU Office of Research Development director of research development.
