STARKVILLE, Miss.—An alumna with 25 years of service at Mississippi State has been named the university library system’s associate dean for public services.

Deborah O. Lee, who holds a Master of Science and doctorate in business administration from MSU, is enjoying her new role in the University Libraries’ public services division. She is responsible for overseeing Research Services, the College of Architecture, Art and Design Library, two branch libraries at MSU-Meridian, and a library that serves the School of Architecture’s Fifth-Year Program in Jackson.

“All of the people who work in our division work with the public, so our goal is to determine how we can better serve the public and promote things like our consultation services,” Lee said. “We also do sessions that are focused on instructional design to help faculty meet information needs in the classroom. Providing a positive experience – that’s what we aim for.”

Officially beginning her new role in February, Lee previously served as MSU Libraries’ coordinator of graduate student services, as well as co-director of the university’s Maroon and Write Quality Enhancement Plan. She was promoted to the rank of full professor in 2007 and served as a member of the graduate faculty from 2006-2013.

Lee is a former associate director of the university’s Center for Teaching and Learning, where she taught workshops and seminars on a variety of faculty development topics and served as the campus trainer for Turnitin.com. She has taught introductory courses on the principles of microeconomics and macroeconomics, social economics issues and Cuban politics.

She is a recipient of the Mississippi StatePride Faculty Award and the library’s Mississippi State University Faculty Research Award, among other honors. Originally from North Carolina, she also holds a bachelor’s in political science and Latin American Studies, as well as a master’s degree in library and information science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. “Mississippi State has been a great place to work,” Lee said. “You have opportunities here, and the people are great. I’ve really enjoyed my time here.”
