MSU to host series of Green Week events Oct. 15-20

STARKVILLE, Miss.—Mississippi State University will host a series of Green Week events on campus beginning Monday [Oct. 15] and continuing through Saturday [Oct. 20].

The events are part of the MSU Office of Sustainability’s Campus Sustainability Month.

“We are so excited to be celebrating our second annual Green Week and to recognize Campus Sustainability Month,” said Christine Lashley, sustainability coordinator in MSU’s Office of Planning Design and Construction Administration. “At each event, we will be raising awareness about how you can help our campus to be cleaner, greener and more beautiful.”

Daily Green Week events include:

Monday—The MSU Community Garden will kick off its first official season with a ribbon cutting that will include MSU President Mark E. Keenum, along with other campus administrators and students, faculty and staff. The ribbon cutting will take place at 11:30 a.m. For more on the garden, visit communitygarden.msstate.edu.

Tuesday—The MSU Student Association Environmental Cabinet will host “Climate Talk,” which will include a panel discussion with professors on the impacts global climate change has on their research. The panel will take place at 5:30 p.m. in the Colvard Student Union’s Fowlkes Auditorium.

Wednesday—A recycling sort will be held at the front entrance of McCain Hall at 2 p.m. The campus community is invited to come and see the success of the McCain recycling program.

Thursday—A Green Week Organization Fair will take place on the Drill Field from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Various departments and groups that take part in sustainability initiatives will be provide information about their programs.

Friday—The Student Association Environmental Cabinet will host a showing of “The Lorax” at 8 p.m. on the Drill Field.

Saturday—The Soil and Water Conservation Society student chapter will lead a Catalpa Creek clean up. Those interested in participating can meet in the Fresh Foods Company parking lot at 9 a.m.
