STARKVILLE, Miss.—A Mississippi State professor of mechanical engineering is being honored with a respected award for his work with the Society of Automotive Engineers.
Yucheng Liu, who holds the university’s Jack Hatcher Chair in Engineering Entrepreneurship within the Bagley College of Engineering, is receiving the 2020 Forest R. McFarland Award from SAE International.
The McFarland Award is presented annually to SAE members who have made outstanding contributions to SAE Engineering events through planning, development and dissemination of technical information via meetings, conferences and professional development programs.
Established in 1979, the award honors the late Forest R. McFarland, who was a session organizer at SAE events, chair of the Passenger Car Activity and member of the Engineering Meetings Board.
“I am thrilled to hear that I have been selected to receive this prestigious award,” Liu said. “I want to thank SAE and the award committee for bestowing this honor on me. I also have to thank the leaders of the Bagley College of Engineering and my colleagues in the mechanical engineering department for creating such a supportive and resourceful environment that allows me to pursue excellence in teaching and research, while being very involved in professional societies such as SAE,” he said.
Liu will formally receive his award at the WCX World Congress Experience in Detroit, Michigan April 21-23.
“I also would not have been able to receive this award without the help of the mechanical engineering faculty and the hard work of my students, especially the student officers of the MSU SAE chapter,” Liu added.
SAE International is a global association of more than 128,000 engineers and related technical experts in the aerospace, automotive and commercial-vehicle industries. SAE’s competencies are life-long learning and voluntary consensus standards development.
