Candidate No. 1 for State Chemist/Mississippi State Chemical Lab director announced
The first candidate for the position of State Chemist and Mississippi State Chemical Laboratory director is Robert J. “Joe” Griffitt. He will be giving an open presentation to the MSU community on Tuesday, June 14 at 2 p.m. in the Bost theatre. The presentation will also be livestreamed.
Griffitt currently serves as director of the School of Ocean Science and Engineering at the University of Southern Mississippi, a position he has held since 2019. He has been a faculty member at USM since 2008, holding assistant professor, associate professor and professor positions at the university. From 2015-2019, he served as associate director of the Division of Coastal Sciences at USM.
Griffit earned a doctorate in environmental health sciences from the University of South Carolina, as well as a master’s degree in marine science from USC and a bachelor’s degree in marine biology from the University of North Carolina Wilmington.
