Candidate No. 2 for State Chemist/Mississippi State Chemical Lab director announced

The second candidate for the position of State Chemist and director of the Mississippi State Chemical Laboratory is Erika Womack. She will be giving an open presentation to the MSU community on Monday, June 27 at 2 p.m. in the Bost theatre. The presentation will also be livestreamed.

Womack is currently serving as a research laboratory manager in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, a position she has held since 2019. Prior to her appointment at UAB, Womack worked from 2016-2019 as a postdoctoral research geneticist in the Corn Host Plant Resistance Research Unit of the United States Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Research Service.

Womack earned her doctorate in molecular biology from Mississippi State University, as well as a master’s degree in biomedical science from Mississippi College and a bachelor’s degree in biological science from MSU.
