STARKVILLE, Miss.—Mississippi State University is being named among “America’s Best Colleges for Student Voting” by Washington Monthly magazine.
The September/October 2022 issue includes an article about “the schools doing the most to turn students into citizens,” based on data from the National Study of Learning, Voting, and Engagement and ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge. The magazine has no official partnership with the democracy challenge but uses publicly available data from its website to compile its America’s Best Colleges for Student Voting Honor Roll.
MSU is among 144 public institutions across the nation named to the honor roll that lists a total of 230 schools.
To be included, universities must have submitted 2020 and 2022 action plans to the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge and opted to receive data from NSLVE, as well as have made their 2018 and 2020 NSLVE data available to the public.
“In short, schools need to have shown a repeated commitment to increasing student voting—and have been transparent about the results,” the article states.

The university’s efforts to encourage active and informed citizenship among its student body, including MSU Student Association-sponsored voter registration drives, have also garnered previous recognition.
