MSU’s Music Maker Productions presents Saturday ‘Blues Night’ with award-winning blues artist Watermelon Slim

STARKVILLE, Miss.—Mississippi State’s Music Maker Productions is hosting “Blues Night” this Saturday, March 2, featuring award-winning blues artist Watermelon Slim and a night filled with music, food and blues history.

Open to the public, the free event will begin at 5 p.m. in Starkville’s Fire Station Park at 503 East Lampkin Street. Watermelon Slim will take the stage at 6 p.m. and opener Brother Drew at 5:15 p.m. Guests may bring coolers, blankets and chairs.

Bill “Watermelon Slim” Homans is a two-time Blues Music Award winner, an Independent Music Award “Blues Album of the Year” winner, Canada’s Maple Blues Award “International Artist of the Year” winner and more. The activist and Vietnam War veteran has been featured in national and international publications for his twangy slide guitar and voice.

Along with classic blues music, the concert will feature a “History of Blues” pop-up and a food truck.
