Alumnus, state official Whitney Lipscomb headlines MSU Fall Convocation Aug. 27

Starkville, Miss.— A Mississippi State alumnus and Mississippi deputy attorney general will be the featured speaker at MSU’s Fall Convocation ceremony on Aug. 27.

Whitney Lipscomb will welcome new MSU students at the annual event that kicks off the new academic year. In addition to Lipscomb, MSU President Mark E. Keenum and other senior leaders will welcome the newest Bulldogs to the MSU family in Humphrey Coliseum at 6 p.m.

Lipscomb is a 2009 summa cum laude MSU graduate who earned a degree in political science. During her time at the university, she was recognized as Miss MSU, a John C. Stennis Scholar, Student Association secretary and recipient of the Spirit of the State award for her campus involvement. She later graduated summa cum laude from the University of Mississippi School of Law in 2013. She previously served as deputy chief of staff and counsel for Gov. Phil Bryant.

Deputy Attorney General Lipscomb oversees the civil, solicitor general and opinions and policy division. She spearheads policy priorities of Attorney General Lynn Fitch while engaging in strategic litigation of complex cases.

The Gulfport native has earned numerous accolades, including Mississippi Business Journal’s Top 40 under 40, one of Mississippi’s top 50 most influential people and a place in the inaugural class of MSU’s Reveille 25. Lipscomb lives in Ridgeland with her husband, Hunter, and their two children.

Humphrey Coliseum opens at 5 p.m. and the program will last approximately one hour. Attendees should adhere to the university’s clear bags policy.
