STARKVILLE, Miss.—Mississippi State University’s Department of English offers high school students an opportunity to immerse themselves in Mississippi’s rich legacy of literature—demonstrating the multitude of educational and professional options available to English majors—at an inaugural English Expo this fall.

“English Expo: Mississippi in the World” is free of charge on Friday, Sept. 27 from 8 a.m. 4 p.m. in the Colvard Student Union. Participants can explore the world of English, including literature, writing studies, linguistics, creative writing and film studies.

Students in grades 9-12 will engage in interactive activities such as learning to film, creating movie posters, ‘breaking out’ of literary escape rooms, and writing at hands-on creative stations.

Registration and event details are available at https://www.english.msstate.edu/english-expo. For more information, contact event coordinator and instructor II in the English department Abigail Voller at lav9@english.msstate.edu or 662-325-2376. Registration closes Sept. 3.

“The Expo will help students see how humanities studies can help you understand your community better while also connecting to the broader world,” Voller said. “These studies can also lead to some intriguing career opportunities that you might not have previously considered.”
