‘LIVE IN CONCERT!’ award winning concert poster exhibition comes to Cullis Wade Depot Art Gallery

STARKVILLE, Miss.—Mississippi State’s Department of Art presents professor emerita Jamie Burwell Mixon’s “LIVE IN CONCERT!” poster exhibition at Cullis Wade Depot Art Gallery throughout September.
Mixon’s exhibit, through Oct. 5, is in the Cullis Wade Depot Art Gallery located next to Barnes and Noble. A public reception is scheduled for 5-6 p.m., Friday, Sept. 6 in the gallery.
With works featured in publications including Communication Arts, Print, HOW, Creative Quarterly, Logo Lounge and various other international and national design publications, the 1984 alumna’s creations have garnered global recognition. Her posters twice have been named Poster of the Year at the Annual National Pollstar Concert Industry Awards in Los Angeles and received multiple top-three awards in the yearly competition.
The Jackson native has designed concert posters since her time as an MSU student involved in Music Maker Productions. Her campus work sparked her poster passion and led to a career in graphic design. Recently retired, Mixon served as graphic design coordinator in the university’s Department of Art for 29 years. As a professor of graphic design, Mixon has received numerous awards including a Grisham Teaching Excellence Award in 1996, the Grisham Master Teacher Award in 2004, and the CAAD Faculty Research Award in 2018.
