Since Oct. 1, Walker has overseen the strategic direction, design and management of pre-college programs including LeaderSTATE and Bulldog for a Day, collaborating with campus partners across the university to ensure the success of academic enrichment efforts. Through these initiatives, the MSU Office of Pre-College and Opportunity Programs facilitates an array of college preparatory offerings that raises students’ awareness of and exposure to college and careers, and assists and supports students and their families in the enrollment process.

“The work we do directly supports the division’s mission and aligns with the university’s strategic vision,” Walker said. “Our focus on fostering positive outcomes for young people as they grow, develop and transition into skilled global citizens is critical not only to their success but to the prosperity of our local communities, our nation and the world.”

A first-generation college student from Prentiss, Walker’s journey to higher education was shaped by his passion for academic achievement and the belief that education provides a powerful means for upward mobility. His experiences fuel his dedication to helping others navigate their educational pathway.

Vice President for Access, Opportunity and Success Ra’Sheda Forbes said, “I am excited to have Dr. Walker lead in this pivotal role in enriching experiences for pre-college students and creating a bridge to higher education.”

Walker began his professional career at MSU with the Office of Admissions and Scholarships in 2008. During his tenure, he played a vital role in recruiting students from the Delta and Jackson Public Schools. In 2013, he transitioned to the Woodward Hines Education Foundation’s Get2College program, where he spent eight years supporting students through the college preparation, planning and financial aid processes. Walker returned to higher education in 2021 as district dean of student services at Northwest Mississippi Community College before serving as director of recruitment and inclusive excellence at MSU’s College of Forest Resources.

Walker holds a bachelor’s degree in education from MSU, a master’s degree in leadership from Belhaven University and an Ed.D. in higher education from the University of Mississippi.
