STARKVILLE, Miss.—A former news and music director of a college radio station in the Blue Ridge Mountains is now at the helm of Mississippi State’s 91.1 The Junction.

Becca Thorn began her role as radio station manager Feb. 1 to plan, organize and supervise the station’s day-to-day broadcasting operations.
In 2014, Thorn received a bachelor’s degree in broadcasting and electronic media from Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina, where she served as news director of WASU-The App for almost two years, followed by a nine-month stint as its music director. Additionally, she spent seven years in corporate sales.
“Becca brings a wealth of experience to the station. She is well-prepared to carry on the incredible progress made at the station to provide students with experiential learning opportunities that are meaningful and practical,” said David Garraway, associate director of MSU’s Office of Public Affairs and director of the University Television Center.
Thorn replaces Neil Price, the “Voice of the Bulldogs” for football and men’s basketball, who was additionally named play-by-play announcer for the Diamond Dawgs in January, succeeding veteran broadcaster Jim Ellis, who retired in December.
A division of MSU’s Office of Public Affairs, 91.1 The Junction is the university’s noncommercial, community station providing news, sports and music programming to those within a 70-mile listening area of campus. Since its creation in 1994, the station has won more than 50 state and national awards. It is available over the air at 91.1 FM or via streaming at www.wmsv.msstate.edu.
