STARKVILLE, Miss.—Applications are now open at Mississippi State University for the Master of Science degree in architecture for this fall.
Students from various design fields, such as interior design, landscape architecture, product design, construction management and art, who wish to explore advanced visualization processes are encouraged to apply.
“Our program currently offers a concentration in Advanced Visualization, with additional concentrations in development,” Coordinator and Associate Professor Silvina Lopez Barrera said. “This flexibility makes the degree relevant both for students coming from five-year professional programs and for those with different academic backgrounds who wish to strengthen their research and analytical skills in architecture.”
The post-professional graduate degree is distinguished by its strong emphasis on interdisciplinary architectural research and its focus on addressing critical questions in the built environment. Students will have the opportunity and means to develop individual research agendas and collaborate with faculty and student colleagues on projects in MSU’s College of Architecture, Art and Design. Applied research is encouraged with related industries, architectural firms and other research units with the goal of addressing pertinent problems in architecture and the built environment.
“The combination of independent inquiry and collaborative engagement sets the program apart and prepares graduates to tackle complex challenges in architecture and beyond,” Barrera said.
School of Architecture Interim Director and F.L. Crane Professor Jassen Callender said the integrative approach of blending theory and applied research is central to preparing students for trends seen in practice today.
“The Master of Science in Advanced Visualization will provide much needed skills and position graduates to engage in cutting-edge research in the future,” he said.
Applications can be submitted through the MSU Graduate School, https://www.grad.msstate.edu/. Research assistantships may be available for students. For more information, contact Lopez Barrera at slopezbarrera@caad.msstate.edu or visit www.caad.msstate.edu.
