Mississippi Book Festival to showcase MSU faculty, retirees, alumni

STARKVILLE, Miss.—Mississippi State is well represented at the upcoming 12th annual Mississippi Book Festival in Jackson.

This year’s “Literary Lawn Party” welcomes more than 50 panelists and 100 authors, and is open to the public at Jackson’s historic State Capitol building and grounds. The Sept. 26 event is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The festival features literature from around the globe, including nationally known actors- and authors- Andrew McCarthy, best known for the film St. Elmo’s Fire, Saturday Night Live’s Kate McKinnon, and many authors based in the Magnolia State. Of the featured panelists, MSU is represented by these current and former professors, graduates and retirees:

—Catherine Pierce, “In Verse: Poetry,” 9:30 a.m., State Capitol Room 201A; book signing for “Dear Beast” and “Foxes for Everybody” is at 11 a.m.

—Tracy Carr, “The Past, Rewritten: Historical Fiction,” 10:45 a.m., State Capitol Room 201A; book signing for “Conversations with Ellen Gilchrist” is at 12:15 p.m.

—Donald C. Jackson, “The Great Outdoors,” 4 p.m., State Capitol Room 201H; book signing for “Restless Winds: Memoirs of an Outdoorsman” is at 5:15 p.m.

—Michael Kardos, “In Brief: Short Stories,” 2:45 p.m., State Capitol Room 201H; book signing for “Quick Change: Stories” is at 4:15 p.m.

—Anne E. Marshall, “Mississippi Institute of Arts and Letters,” 9:30 a.m., State Capitol Room 113; book signing for “Creating a Confederate Kentucky: The Lost Cause and Civil War Memory in a Border State” is at 11 a.m.
