Under the Ochsner Health umbrella, the Meridian-based Ochsner Rush serves patients throughout east Mississippi and west Alabama through numerous locations and providers. Ochsner Health is a nationally recognized, leading nonprofit provider in the Gulf South, with almost 50 hospitals and 400 health and urgent care centers in the region.

Last year, more than 5,000 employed and affiliated Ochsner physicians cared for more than 1.6 million people from every state in the nation and 65 countries.

Shaw joined MSU in 1985 and has served in a variety of roles from assistant professor to the university’s chief academic officer. As provost, he has overseen the expansion of health sciences offerings at MSU-Meridian to help meet the Magnolia State’s healthcare workforce needs. That expansion includes two new schools—the School of Nursing and School of Health Professions—and launching of the Master of Physician Assistant Studies, Master of Science in Nursing and Doctor of Physical Therapy programs.

Shaw also helped oversee broader efforts to coordinate and expand health sciences programming across the university, strengthening MSU’s role in preparing the healthcare professionals Mississippi communities need. The growth of MSU-Meridian’s health sciences programs has been supported by The Riley Foundation and additional strong community partnerships, including the Phil Hardin Foundation, the Broadhead Foundation and the Montgomery Foundation.

Mississippi State University is taking care of what matters.
