MSU appoints Robinson head of CVM’s Department of Pathobiology and Population Medicine

STARKVILLE, Miss.—A new professor and head of the Department of Pathobiology and Population Medicine at Mississippi State brings extensive clinical and academic experience from the U.K. and U.S. to the university’s College of Veterinary Medicine.
Dr. Philip Robinson, a Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons-recognized specialist in state veterinary medicine, joins MSU from England’s Harper & Keele Veterinary School, where he served as professor of veterinary public health and veterinary school deputy head. Robinson previously conducted research at the CVM as a U.S.-U.K. Fulbright Scholar in 2010.
Through his 30-year career, he has held positions in academia and with the state veterinary service in Northern Ireland, and was also a private veterinary practitioner at veterinary clinics in N.I. and Scotland. He worked as principal lecturer in farm animal health and welfare and head of department at England’s Harper Adams University, and senior lecturer and academic lead in veterinary public health at the University of Glasgow School of Veterinary Medicine in Scotland.
Robinson’s research has been published extensively, with interests including livestock disease control, veterinary surveillance, antimicrobial stewardship, and the behaviors and decision-making of farmers and veterinarians.
MSU’s College of Veterinary Medicine Department of Pathobiology and Population Medicine supports clinical, diagnostic and academic excellence across a broad range of animal health disciplines. Its work addresses issues affecting companion animals, livestock, poultry, aquatic species and marine animals, preparing future veterinarians, veterinary specialists and veterinary technicians through teaching and clinically relevant research designed to improve the health of individual animals and populations.
