Departments and Units
The Mississippi State University Department of Art is accredited by NASAD (National Association of Schools of Art and Design).
Students can focus on seven areas of study, to develop their skills in a way that matters to them most. The curriculum is created to cover all critical aspects, providing a comprehensive education that can lead to varied careers.
- Graphic Design
Faculty focus on different techniques, disciplines and approaches within each area. Graduating students may go on to pursue careers in ceramic design, product design, illustration, architectural rendering, art direction, photojournalism, set design and much more.
Building Construction Science
Mississippi State University Building Construction Science degree program is designed to educate students in preparation for construction management careers in the future. It covers different areas of construction, engineering and business sciences.
Graduates are expected to be decision-makers and managers in their work environment. Students in the program solve problems as construction professionals in a simulated office environment called a “studio.” In studio, students are challenged to integrate classroom knowledge and skills to solve problems on construction projects. The program emphasizes the latest trends in the industry, including technology. Students learn how to use industry-standard computer software and use building information modeling (BIM) through all four years of the curriculum.
The Mississippi State University Interior Design program empowers students with a well-rounded education to work in residential and / or commercial interior design.
This program is accredited by both the Council for Interior Design Accreditation and the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD).
Students are taught how to enhance the function and quality of interior spaces for the purpose of improving the quality of life; increasing productivity; and protecting the health, safety, and welfare of the public as well as protecting the environment.
School of Architecture
The School of Architecture offers the Bachelor of Architecture, which is a five-year professional degree. The school has been accredited by NAAB (National Architectural Accrediting Board) continuously since it was established and is the only program available in Mississippi to award you a professional architecture degree that leads toward licensure.
The range of courses available at the Mississippi State University School of Architecture offers outstanding preparation for a career in this complex field. Students will have the fundamental skills, capabilities and knowledge required to succeed.
The School of Architecture features cutting-edge studio facilities in which students will learn and explore their talents. Professional artists and architects are invited to perform guest lectures at the School of Architecture to give students a breadth of diverse perspectives and valuable insights from experts.
