College of Business

Accountancy is a major aspect of business in all industries, and the Adkerson School of Accountancy offers students an unparalleled education across four degree programs. 

Undergraduates can study for a Bachelor in Accountancy or an Accounting Minor. Public, private, and governmental accounting are the most common career choices for accounting graduates. Some graduates use their accounting degree as a foundation for a career in related business professions or for the study of law. 

Graduates may study for a Master of Professional Accountancy and a Master of Professional Accountancy both on-campus or online.

Our faculty comprises 14 members, three of whom have tenure, and the team has won numerous accolades including the Grisham Master Teacher Award. Additionally, both our undergraduate and graduate programs have been ranked nationally in the Top 20 according to CCH's Public Accounting Report (with 15 or fewer faculty members) for the last two years.

The Adkerson School of Accountancy (and, indeed, the MSU College of Business) is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).
 

In the Department of Finance and Economics, students can choose from multiple degrees across finance and economics with concentrations in risk management and insurance.

Finance majors will develop the knowledge to make important financial decisions and understand how to act upon findings gathered through data analysis. 

Economics students can choose a major or minor, gaining skills in economics analysis across commercial, domestic and government fields.

Graduates can study for a Ph.D. in Business Administration — Finance or Ph.D. in Business Administration — Economics. 

A Risk Management and Insurance Program is available as a concentration for finance majors, offering students a broad study in the aforementioned subjects, with a particular emphasis on the insurance industry.
 

The Department of Management and Information Systems is committed to educating students at Bachelor, Master and Doctoral levels. 

The Management degree offers students the flexibility to decide their own electives after taking the courses required (Principles of Management / Production, Human Resource Management, Organizational Behavior and Entrepreneurship).

Graduating students will have the knowledge they need to lead in a range of different business environments. 

A Ph.D. Program in Management is available at the College of Business at Mississippi State University too. This focuses on helping students advance their research and teaching capabilities through time spent educating others. 

Doctoral students have a strong record of winning teaching awards, an impressive testament to the program’s quality. 

The Business Information Systems degree is designed to empower students with knowledge and experience of business analytics, management information systems and data processing.

The Master of Science in Information Systems (MSIS) program, offered both on-campus and online, prepares students to become information systems professionals who can successfully develop, acquire, and integrate information technology across levels and functions of a firm in a global business environment.

The Mississippi State University College of Business doctoral program in Business Information Systems is intended to help students research and teach in diverse settings. 

Graduates have secured roles at various universities and are well-prepared to teach in such areas as programming, systems analysis and business telecommunications. 
 

As part of the College of Business at Mississippi State University, the Department of Marketing, Quantitative Analysis & Business Law offer degrees at the Bachelor, Master, and Doctoral levels. 

The Marketing program is designed to prepare students for careers in marketing research, advertising, sales promotion and more. 

The Supply Chain Logistics Major educates students in logistics, distribution and supply chains. This sets them up for leadership roles in numerous sectors, such as transportation and warehousing.

Students can work toward a marketing major as they choose elective courses focused on distribution, logistics and supply chain processes. No other university in our region offers this program. 

Also available to marketing majors is the PGA Golf Management Concentration. As the second oldest PGA Golf Management program in the country, students and graduates can choose from a variety of internships, jobs and career paths in the golf industry. In fact, the program boasts 100 percent job placement for 30+ years.
